A FORTRESS IN EUROPE
A FORTRESS IN EUROPE
In Berlin-Kreuzberg, the occupation of an abandonned school, by refugees, is tolerated for about 2 years. Around 250 people, mostly from Africa have found shelter here and organize them selfes under harsh conditions. When in spring 2014 a maroccan man is stabbed to death in a fight over the only shower - the senate decides to clear the school. In fear of a huge amount of police-forces, that had sourounded and closed of the area, most of the people inside the school decided to leave and were brought to refugeeaccomodation. But around 45 people decide to stay and fight for their rights. The threaten to throw themselves of the roof and light the school on fire if police would enter the building.
The Police-siege goes on for 9 days. Days of the fear being stormed at night by riotpolice and without being able to leave the bulding. At the end of these days - senate and refugees come to a compromise. The refugees may stay - for now - but with tough restrictions.
